A court hearing was held on the appeal filed against the verdict concerning the employees of "Abzas Media".
Modern.az reports that the decision was announced today at the Baku Court of Appeal during a process chaired by Judge Zafar Ahmadov.
According to the decision, the appeal was not granted, and the verdict was upheld.
It should be recalled that by the verdict of the Baku Court for Grave Crimes, Ulvi Hasanli was sentenced to 9 years, Sevinj Vagifgizi (Abbasova) to 9 years, Mahammad Kekalov to 7 years and 6 months, Nargiz Absalamova to 8 years, Hafiz Babali to 9 years, Elnara Gasimova to 8 years, and Farid Mehralizade to 9 years of imprisonment.
It should be noted that on November 21, 2023, "Abzas Media" director Ulvi Hasanli and editor-in-chief Sevinj Vagifgizi (Abbasova), on November 23, deputy director Mahammad Kekalov, on December 1, the website's employee Nargiz Absalamova, on December 13, journalist Hafiz Babali, and later the website's employee Elnara Gasimova were placed in pre-trial detention on charges of group smuggling.
Initially, they were charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (group smuggling).
During the investigation, a final indictment was issued under several articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 193-1.3.2 (Legalization of money or other property obtained by criminal means, committed in a significant amount).
