A court hearing was held regarding the appeal filed against the verdict concerning the employees of "Abzas Media".
Modern.az reports that today, a decision was announced in the proceedings held at the Baku Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Zafar Ahmadov.
According to the decision, the appeal was not granted, and the verdict was upheld.
It should be recalled that by the verdict of the Baku Court for Grave Crimes, Ulvi Hasanli was sentenced to 9 years, Sevinj Vagifgizi (Abbasova) to 9 years, Mahammad Kekalov to 7 years and 6 months, Nargiz Absalamova to 8 years, Hafiz Babali to 9 years, Elnara Gasimova to 8 years, and Farid Mehralizade to 9 years of imprisonment.
It should be noted that on November 21, 2023, a pre-trial detention measure was chosen against Ulvi Hasanli, director of “Abzas Media”, and Sevinj Vagifgizi (Abbasova), editor-in-chief, on November 23 against Mahammad Kekalov, deputy director, on December 1 against Nargiz Absalamova, an employee of the website, on December 13 against journalist Hafiz Babali, and later against Elnara Gasimova, an employee of the website, on charges of group smuggling.
Initially, charges were brought against them under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling committed by a group of persons).
During the investigation, final charges were brought under several articles of the Criminal Code, including Article 193-1.3.2 (Legalization of criminally obtained money or other property, committed in a significant amount).
