The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) will increase the number of buses put into service on routes to improve passenger transportation capabilities in connection with the start of the academic season.

According to information provided by AYNA to Modern.az, in September 2022, the number of buses used for passenger transportation in Baku was 1780, in 2023 it was 2011, and in 2024 it was 2180. Currently, 2200 buses are operated for passenger transportation in the capital. In connection with the academic season, the number of vehicles is planned to exceed 2300. In this regard, a plan has been prepared by AYNA, meetings have been held with carriers, and instructions have been given to increase the number of buses on routes.

Currently, private transport companies supporting the state's initiative continue to bring modern buses using environmentally friendly technologies, i.e., electricity or compressed natural gas, into the country.

During 2025, renewal has been carried out on 10 routes, and approximately 150 environmentally friendly buses have been involved in transportation. The renewal process has covered Sumgayit city and Absheron district, in addition to the capital. Thus, 85 modern buses have been put into service for passengers on 7 routes. Additionally, another 200 environmentally friendly and comfortable buses will soon be brought by carriers for transportation in Baku.
