“The information and statements disseminated in recent days indicate that the topic of information security should be at the center of attention not only for specialists but for every citizen”.

This was stated by Ceyhun Mammadov, a Member of the National Assembly, in his statement to Modern.az. The MP noted that today, information is not merely a means of transmitting data, but is used as the most powerful strategic weapon.

“By whom, for what purpose, and how information is shared is of vital importance for our national security.

Let us not forget that false or distorted information can work to the detriment not only of individuals but of society as a whole. Today, information warfare can be more covert, yet more dangerous, than conventional armed conflicts. Irresponsible shares on social networks and various platforms, believing unverified news and spreading it, can be easily manipulated by hostile forces.

We saw this most clearly during the Karabakh War. Alongside military operations, information warfare was also being waged. At that time, some fake news and false shares were aimed at affecting the psychological state of society, weakening the will of our army, and creating confusion among our people. However, the wisdom of our people, the coordinated activities of our state, and the provision of a correct information flow thwarted these attempts”.

According to C. Mammadov, the situation is no different today:

“The processes taking place in the region, the interests of global powers, and the subversive campaigns conducted against our country once again demonstrate that information security is an integral part of national security. The strength of a state is measured not only by its army but also by its ability to protect its information space.

For this reason, each of us must realize our responsibility:

- We must verify the source of every piece of news we share and rely only on official and reliable information.

- We must not become tools for provocative writings or information spread from fake accounts.

- Alongside ourselves, we must encourage those around us to use information correctly.

Let us not forget: the weapon of information either adds strength to our power or turns against us. The choice is in our hands. Let us be vigilant together, protect the interests of our state, and the security of our people”.
