Russia expects Armenia and Azerbaijan to take practical steps to quickly agree on the venue and time of the next meeting in the “3+3” format.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a weekly briefing.
"This is an effective platform for discussing issues important for the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and for the South Caucasus. Moscow is ready to support its partners in all areas," Zakharova emphasized, adding that Russia considers the strengthening of peace in the South Caucasus and the establishment of lasting reconciliation between Armenia and Azerbaijan a priority.
Turkey and Azerbaijan initiated the creation of a consultative platform in the “3+3” format. The first meeting of the platform took place in December 2021. Subsequently, deputy foreign ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Turkey participated in the platform. Georgia refused to participate in the meeting.
The second meeting was held at the level of foreign ministers in October 2023 in Tehran, the capital of Iran. Georgia also did not participate in the second meeting of the platform. Another meeting in the “3+3” format at the level of foreign ministers was held in October 2024 in Istanbul. Georgia again did not attend the Istanbul meeting.
Recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that it is time to resume the work of the “3+3” format.
