Turkey's special representative for the normalization process with Armenia, Serdar Kılıç, visited Armenia today. Ruben Rubinyan, Armenia's special representative for the normalization of relations with Turkey, met with Serdar Kılıç at the "Margara" border checkpoint on the Armenia-Turkey border. The main topic of discussion was the opening of the Turkey-Armenia borders. It is a noteworthy nuance whether the parties will reach any agreement on the border issue.
Regarding the issue, Şamil Ayrım, Chairman of the Turkey-Azerbaijan Friendship Group of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, speaking to Modern.az, stated that the special delegation went to Armenia after consulting with Azerbaijan:
“No positive progress can be made without Azerbaijan's knowledge. Our delegation spoke with Azerbaijan, and then went to Armenia. This is what I know. So far, no information has been received regarding the details of the concluded meeting”.
The deputy also emphasized that the opening of the borders could be on the agenda at any moment, as it is time to take concrete steps:
“The problem regarding the Zangezur corridor has already been resolved. Now, Armenia is simply required to remove the clause regarding territorial claims from its Constitution. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently traveled to China using Azerbaijani airspace. This means events are that recent. The opening of the borders could be on the agenda at any moment. Because concrete steps need to be taken. The opening of the borders is important for trade for Armenia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan alike. However, this will happen in the way Azerbaijan desires. If there is even the slightest objection from Azerbaijan, the opening of the borders will not be possible”.
