From October 11-17 of the current year, the city of Baku will host the 67th General Assembly of the International Association of Judges (IAJ). Approximately 300 judges from 71 countries, representatives of international organizations, and legal professionals will participate in this prestigious event.
This information was provided to Modern.az by the Supreme Court.
It was stated that in connection with the event, Margaret Satterhvaite, the UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, will also visit Baku. Her participation will lend particular importance to the discussion of the role of courts in ensuring the rule of law at the international conference on the relations between the judiciary and other branches of government.
It should be recalled that the International Association of Judges, of which the Union of Judges of Azerbaijan has been a member since 2009, takes important steps towards the protection of human rights and judicial independence. Within the framework of the General Assembly to be held in Baku in 2025, elections to the governing bodies of the organization will also be conducted, and the next president will be determined.
