Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan gave an interview to “Deutsche Welle” journalist Konstantin Egger at the Warsaw Security Forum.
According to Modern.az, he spoke in the interview about peace talks with Baku and the restoration of transport links in the region.
The Minister recalled that on August 8, an important summit was held in Washington with the participation of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the USA, and during that meeting, the foreign ministers initialed the “Washington Declaration”.
According to him, the document incorporates key principles such as mutual recognition of territorial integrity between the two countries, inviolability of borders, and restoration of communication lines.
“Now the next step is to agree on the technical details related to the signing of a peace agreement and the restoration of transport links. After that, the phase of infrastructure restoration and construction will begin,” Mirzoyan stated.
The Armenian Foreign Minister noted that the process of state border delimitation between the parties has been launched: “We have already identified a 12-kilometer section. Although the process is difficult, mutual understanding exists, and work can continue at the same, or even a faster pace.”
Touching upon the transport project called “Trump route” in the interview, Mirzoyan stated that the parties have agreed on the opening of all communication lines and infrastructure. “This means that Armenia gains access to the Azerbaijani railway, and Azerbaijan gains access to our railway. In other words, both countries will be able to pass through each other's territory as normal neighbors,” he added.
According to the Minister, the goal is to increase mutual economic interdependence in the region and create conditions for lasting peace.
