Azerbaijani President's special representative Khalaf Khalafov, who is on a visit to Tehran, met with Iranian President's assistant for political affairs, Mehdi Sanayi.
Modern.az reports, citing Iranian media, that during the meeting, Sanayi touched upon the friendly relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of removing obstacles to the implementation of joint projects.
Referring to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's instructions on increasing cooperation with neighboring countries, especially the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sanayi said: “Positive progress has been made in our relations since Mr. Pezeshkian's visit to Baku, but we must work towards the opening of land borders and the implementation of a prisoner exchange agreement.”
Emphasizing the importance of frequent reciprocal visits between high-ranking officials of Iran and Azerbaijan, Sanayi stated that official Tehran hopes to host Mr. Ilham Aliyev in the near future.
Azerbaijani President's special representative Khalaf Khalafov, referring to the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries, said: “Most of the agreements concluded with Iran are being implemented.”
Khalafov had previously met with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi.
