"It is difficult to cancel a meeting for which there is no concrete agreement". Modern.az reports that Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said this in response to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky announced that the cancellation of the Budapest summit was the result of his meeting with European partners.
"Firstly, no one has announced the exact date of the summit, and no one has been able to reach an agreement on it. This is the first point. In this regard, it was difficult to cancel something without any concrete agreement. Neither Trump nor Putin, both have not discussed this; they do not want to waste time and do not want to gather just for the sake of a meeting," Peskov stated.
An agreement on holding the summit was reached between Trump and Putin after a phone conversation on October 16. Although the presidents planned to discuss the prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, neither side announced the date of the meeting. On October 23, Trump announced that the meeting with Putin would not take place, at least for now. "I didn't think we would get to where we needed to go. So I canceled it. But we will do it in the future," the American president stated.
