Russian President Vladimir Putin raised the issue of the arrest of Russian IT specialists in Baku on charges of drug smuggling during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Modern.az reports that presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists about this.

"Currently, very difficult work is being done, and President Putin has raised all these sensitive issues; they are also being raised at the working level. We continue our dialogue," Peskov said in response to a question about whether Putin discussed the release of Russians detained in Baku on drug smuggling charges during his recent talks with Aliyev.

In July, Baku's Sabail District Court sentenced Russian citizens to four months in prison on charges of drug smuggling from Iran and cyber fraud. A day earlier, the Baku court extended the detention period by another three months.

Peskov said that the results of the bilateral meeting between Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev in Dushanbe are highly valued.

Putin and Aliyev met in Dushanbe on October 9.

"First of all, we highly appreciate the results of the bilateral meeting between the two presidents in Dushanbe. This was a very important meeting in terms of opening a new page in our bilateral relations," Peskov told journalists.
