On August 22 this year, the Russian Ministry of Justice included political scientist Sergey Markov in the list of foreign agents. He was accused of spreading fake information about the Russian authorities and participating in the creation or dissemination of content by foreign agents.
Modern.az contacted Sergey Markov himself to ascertain the latest situation regarding him.
In a statement to our website, Markov stated that his "foreign agent" status has not yet been removed. The court hearing regarding the claim filed against him by the Ministry of Justice on this matter is scheduled for December 16. According to Sergey Markov, the opposing side has filed a claim against him for "not recognizing himself as a foreign agent".
The expert, stating that he is currently in Russia, mentioned that he partially continues his political activities. He emphasized that for certain reasons, he has not given interviews to Russian and Azerbaijani media recently.
The expert specifically noted that he has not given interviews to opposition-leaning media outlets:
“They try to use me for their political positions. However, I have not supported and do not support any of their positions. I support Vladimir Putin and consider myself a patriot of Russia.”
In addition, he added that he has given interviews to international media – information outlets from India, China, Arab, European and other countries – and has spoken extensively about Vladimir Putin in these appearances.
