Farah Pahlavi, the wife of the Shah of Iran, currently living in exile in America, has offered condolences to the Iranian people.
Modern.az reports that in the condolences addressed via social networks, Farah Pahlavi
stated that she was shaken while watching images depicting the bodies of innocent protesters in Iran.
“This scene pained my heart as a mother. Every child of the homeland whose blood has been shed is as dear to me as my own children. I wish patience to the mothers and fathers of Iran and consider myself a part of their mourning. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all our compatriots who have lost loved ones in this popular uprising, and I wish healing to the wounded,” said F. Pahlavi.
The Shah's wife also appealed to the Iranian Army, calling on them to join the people.
“Before it is too late, join your other brothers and sisters and do not tie your fate to the murderers. Tomorrow's free Iran belongs to your children too. Do not destroy your family's future by shedding the blood of your compatriots.”
Calling on the Iranian people, Farah Pahlavi said, “Be strong and believe that soon you will celebrate freedom together in Iran, and light will triumph over darkness.”
In Iran, the Shah's regime – the Pahlavi dynasty – was overthrown in 1979.
The Pahlavis, with the help of the British, overthrew the Qajars, the last Turkic dynasty in Iran, in 1925 and seized power. The Pahlavi dynasty, which ruled Iran between 1925 and 1979, is remembered as the most brutal regime.
Farah Pahlavi, a Persianized Azerbaijani, desires the overthrow of the current regime in Iran. Her wish is for her son, Reza Pahlavi, to come to power in Iran.
Farah Pahlavi and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi had 4 children.
In 2001, Farah Pahlavi's youngest daughter, Leila, passed away in the USA.
In 2011, another tragedy befell the family. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's youngest son, Ali Reza Pahlavi, committed suicide by shooting himself.
Today, Farah Pahlavi, her eldest son Reza Pahlavi, and her eldest daughter Farahnaz live in Washington.
