On January 16, at the Center for Social Research, organized by this institution, the presentation ceremony of the e-book "Western Azerbaijan in Documents and Sources", prepared within the framework of the conference "Return to Historical Homeland", took place.
Modern.az reports that the book was created based on the "Ancient Homeland" project of the National Heritage Cultural Historical Research (MİMTA) Foundation within the framework of the medium grant competition of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations.
The scientific research work reflects facts regarding the settlement of our compatriots in Western Azerbaijan according to historical periods, the establishment of the Iravan Khanate, its socio-political situation, cultural environment, implemented reforms, administrative division, and governance structure.
The book also analyzes the First and Second Russo-Iranian Wars, the impact of the Treaty of Turkmenchay and Edirne on the demographic and political situation of Western Azerbaijan, the resettlement of Armenians to Western Azerbaijan, the creation of the Armenian province, and the policy of Armenization carried out during the Tsarist Russian period.
Issues such as the deportation of Azerbaijanis, the cultural environment and appropriation of tangible cultural heritage during the Dashnak rule, and the changing of toponyms are also included in the research.
Based on historical documents and archival materials, the author presents the ethnic, political, and cultural processes of Western Azerbaijan from ancient times to the modern era, explains the roots of the Armenization policy on a scientific basis, and confirms the presence of Azerbaijanis in the region with documents.
The book is of great importance for the restoration of historical memory, the preservation of national identity, and the enlightenment of the younger generation, and is a valuable source that forms the scientific and ideological foundations of the Western Azerbaijan idea.
Officials from state institutions, NGO leaders, representatives of science and the public, and media participants attended the event.
Pərviz Əmirov, Executive Director of the MİMTA Foundation, who opened the meeting with an introductory speech, wished success to the author of the book, Əfqan Vəliyev, and spoke about the creation of the "Ancient Homeland" project.
Subsequently, speeches by Member of Parliament Ceyhun Məmmədov, Əfqan Vəliyev, and Elmira Məmmədova, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani and World Literature at Baku Eurasian University, Doctor of Philology, Professor, were heard.
Within the framework of the event, Fəridə Səfiyeva, Chairman of the Iravan City Community, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, Tacir Qurbanov, leading researcher at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, and others delivered speeches, expressing their gratitude to the MİMTA Foundation and Əfqan Vəliyev.
