Within the framework of the energy efficiency campaign of the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, the fact that an influencer spoke Russian with their child and the recorded video was shared on the ministry's official Facebook account was not received unambiguously. Thus, in the video published on the Ministry's official social media account, the call for energy saving was made in Russian, while our native language was used in the subtitles.
At a time when President Ilham Aliyev has given very important messages regarding the protection of our mother tongue, the fact that the influencer and their child featured in the ministry's video spoke Russian, and our native language was given in subtitles, has raised questions among social media users.
Regarding the issue, Modern.az contacted Amil Hasanov, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Energy.
The official of the institution noted that within the framework of the energy efficiency campaign, there are already videos of more than 160 different individuals. These videos have been prepared in various languages, and the videos of individuals who joined this campaign have been shared on our social media pages based on selection to date:
“In addition to videos in Russian, there are also clips in English. Why is propaganda in Russian specifically approached negatively?”.
Amil Hasanov noted that there are citizens with various mother tongues in Azerbaijan. It is appropriate to have advertisements in suitable languages:
“Despite being in Russian, the subtitles are in Azerbaijani. As a result, the reach of the advertisement expands. A sufficient number of video clips are also prepared in Azerbaijani.”
He noted that the organization does not sign contracts with any influencers and therefore no one is paid:
“This is a voluntary initiative, and we only share those materials on our official page based on selection.”
