The United Water Supply Service of Large Cities of the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan (ADSEA) continues its activities towards eliminating potential problems in the water supply system during winter months.

It was reported to Modern.az from the Agency that, mainly, works on flushing sewage collectors, cleaning manholes and storm grates are carried out. As a result of these measures, the lines can carry both rainwater and wastewater without obstruction during intense rainfall. At the same time, sewage pumping stations are inspected, and mechanical equipment is brought into working order.

“During winter months, problems mainly arise due to freezing in meters and main distribution networks. In most water lines laid in a primitive manner, the insulation requirement is not taken into account. Our recommendation is that these lines should either be insulated or placed underground.

We bring to the attention of consumers that it is important to take necessary and preventive measures to prevent meters installed in individual residential houses, courtyards, and commercial facilities from failing due to freezing on frosty days.

During night hours when frost is more severe, to prevent water from remaining inside the meter, the meter's inlet valve should be closed, the outlet valve should be kept open, and the meter box lid should remain closed. For protection against freezing, it is important to cover exposed pipes and the meter itself with warm materials, and to fill the inside of the box with wood chips,” ADSEA stated.
