The final court proceeding in the criminal case of Vagif Allahverdiyev, residing in the USA and accused of calls against the state, was held.

Modern.az reports that a verdict in absentia was read in the proceeding held at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Roman Alakbarli.

According to the verdict, Vagif Allahverdiyev was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment.

It should be noted that a decision was made to involve Vagif Allahverdiyev as an accused person under Article 281.2 of the Criminal Code. It was stated that since he fled the investigation and hid outside the borders of Azerbaijan, a search was declared for him in connection with the announcement of charges against him. By the decision of Binagadi District Court dated February 23 last year, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest in absentia was chosen against him.
On September 18, additions and amendments were made to the content of the indictment, and a decision was made to involve Vagif Allahverdiyev as an accused person under Articles 220.2 and 281.2 of the Criminal Code.

It was noted that during his residence in the state of California, USA, he changed his name and surname to Viktor Aleksandr. In March-May 2017, he prepared 5 separate video appeals. In these videos, he appealed to Azerbaijani citizens, making open calls that cause the disruption of public peace and tranquility, security, to paralyze the activities of state authorities, and to encourage the overthrow of the existing government, formed and operating on legal grounds in Azerbaijan, through the use of force.
