We faced baseless criticisms regarding both Eurovision and COP.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in response to questions from business representatives from various countries at an event titled "Breakfast with the Leadership of Azerbaijan" within the framework of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Head of State noted that there were more baseless criticisms regarding COP29, stating: "Specifically concerning COP, they blamed us for being an oil-producing country, questioning how an oil-producing country could host COP. This is despite the fact that there have been countries producing significantly more oil than Azerbaijan both before and after Azerbaijan. However, the question was directed at us, and I said that possessing oil is not our fault. We should not be blamed for this. We should be judged on how we manage our oil wealth and how we distribute it fairly within society".
