Former diplomat Ramiz Vəliyev, detained by the State Security Service (SSS), has been granted an Amnesty Act.

Modern.az reports that in the proceedings held at the Baku Court of Appeal under the chairmanship of Judge Faiq Qəniyev, the verdict of the court of first instance was amended and his sentence was reduced by 6 months, definitively set at 4 years and 6 months.

It should be noted that former diplomat Ramiz Vəliyev, who served as an advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Arab Republic of Egypt, was detained on December 8, 2024, as a result of operational measures carried out by the SSS.

He was charged under Article 308.2 (abuse of official powers) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

R. Vəliyev was found guilty of intentionally using his official powers contrary to the interests of the service, with the aim of obtaining illegal advantages for himself or third parties in connection with the performance of his official duties, thereby causing significant damage resulting in serious consequences to the rights and legitimate interests of natural or legal persons, including the legally protected interests of the state.

According to the verdict of the Narimanov District Court, Ramiz Vəliyev was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment. As an additional penalty, he was also deprived of the right to hold certain positions for a period of 2 years.(APA )
