A court process has begun in Yekaterinburg, Russia, regarding a criminal case in which members of the Azerbaijani diaspora are implicated.
Modern.az reports that, according to allegations put forward by Russian investigative bodies, among the accused in the aforementioned case are citizens of Azerbaijan and individuals of Azerbaijani origin.
Among the accused, the names of Shujayaddin Rajabov, Shahin Shikhlinski, Akif, Kamal, Bakir, Ayaz, and Mazahir Safarov are mentioned.
According to information from the press service of the Kirov District Court, which is hearing the case, it has been decided that court sessions will be held in the building of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court, taking into account the large number of participants in the process.
According to the investigation's version, the accused have been charged with episodes related to murder and attempted murder against businessmen in 2001, 2010, and 2011. Investigators claim that these incidents occurred against the backdrop of an internal struggle for influence and leadership within the diaspora.
According to the information, the case will be heard by a jury court. Taking into account the request of the state prosecutor and the aggrieved party, it has been decided that the court sessions will be held behind closed doors.
It should be noted that on the morning of June 27, 2025, the Federal Security Service raided the homes of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg, Russia, beating and killing the brothers Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov. During the raid, some of our compatriots sustained severe bodily injuries, and 9 people were detained.
