Military expert Adalat Verdiyev, conditionally released, filed an appeal for the annulment of his conditional conviction with a 1-year probation period, with full exemption from additional punishment, and for the early removal of his criminal record.
Modern.az reports that a decision was made after considering the military expert's complaint during the proceedings chaired by Judge Faiq Ganiyev of the Baku Court of Appeal.
According to the decision, the conditional conviction with a 1-year probation period, as determined by the verdict of the Nasimi District Court dated April 7, 2025, and the additional punishment of deprivation of the right to hold leadership and financially responsible positions in state and local self-government bodies for a period of 2 years, or to engage in certain activities, remained unchanged.
It should be recalled that substantial suspicions were identified regarding Adalat Verdiyev, who participated as a military expert in a media tour organized on November 22, 2024, for recording the areas where the combat positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are located and disseminating them via a social media account, causing significant harm leading to severe consequences for Azerbaijan's legally protected state security and defense interests.
According to the verdict read out to him during the proceedings chaired by Judge Babek Panahov of the Nasimi District Court, Adalat Verdiyev was found guilty under Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code (dissemination of state secrets). He was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to hold leadership and financially responsible positions in state and local self-government bodies for a period of 2 years. The punishment imposed on him was considered conditional, with a 1-year probation period, in accordance with Article 70 of the Criminal Code. A. Verdiyev was released from the courtroom.(Unikal.az)
