The correctness of intention during fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the topics that raises the most questions in society.
Regarding this, the theologian Rufat Garayev, who gave a statement to Modern.az, stated that all deeds are tied to intentions:
He noted that the intention in the month of Ramadan is solely to gain the pleasure of Allah:
“Inevitably, if we fast, if we refrain from eating and drinking during the day, we lose weight. Through this, a person can achieve their hidden intention - the desire to lose weight. Especially if a person is overweight, if they have any concerns related to excess weight, this will inevitably be on their mind. The point is that one should not take the desire to lose weight as a goal, as a primary condition. This thought should always be kept in the background, ensuring it remains at a subconscious level.”
According to the theologian, if a person loses weight and thereby regains their health, and at the same time remembers this during the process of worship, there is no fault in it:
“As we mentioned, if the goal is to lose weight, to receive biological treatment, this, of course, is not considered an act of fasting worship and is not accepted.”
Rufat Garayev said that fasting is divided into 3 levels:
“Fasting of the stomach is only the first stage. There is also fasting of the eyes, ears, and tongue. That is, not only a person's stomach, but also their other organs must fast. The third level of fasting is to fast against everything other than Allah, which is a state characteristic of prophets, saints, and those with high divine status. Our social reality may perhaps hinder the third stage, but this does not mean that we should not strive to reach the highest status.”
