Today, the General Assembly of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences will be held.
It was reported that one of the two topics to be discussed before the meeting was the expulsion of Ramiz Mehdiyev from the full membership of ANAS. However, in the official statement issued by ANAS before the meeting, it was stated that the issue of Ramiz Mehdiyev's expulsion from full membership will be resolved in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation. It was noted that if his guilt regarding the accusations brought against him is confirmed by a court verdict, the matter will be submitted for discussion to the General Assembly of ANAS and an appropriate decision will be made.
Modern.az contacted the Public Relations Department of ANAS regarding which issues would be discussed at the meeting.
The institution confirmed that there was no issue related to Ramiz Mehdiyev on the meeting's agenda. It was noted that a meeting on this topic can only be held after a court verdict is issued. Currently, the agenda primarily envisages the discussion of scientific and organizational issues.
It should be recalled that the General Assembly of ANAS is held annually on a date determined by the Presidium. In addition, an extraordinary meeting may be convened based on the request of the Presidium, the President of the Academy, or a number of full members as stipulated in the Charter. An extraordinary meeting may be convened in connection with significant organizational and structural changes, elections to leadership positions or early termination of powers, state-level assignments, or urgent scientific or financial matters.
