Colonel Ovanes Tamamyan, Deputy Head of the General Criminal Investigation Department of the Armenian Police, has been arrested.
Modern.az reports that the Investigative Committee of Armenia has released information regarding this.
According to factual information obtained during the preliminary investigation, on March 1, 2008, Ovanes Tamamyan, without any justification, instructed police officers to beat protester E.A. in Yerevan's Freedom Square and take him to the General Department for Combating Organized Crime.
Based on this instruction, violence was used against E.A.: he was repeatedly punched and kicked in various parts of his p, resulting in severe, life-threatening injuries.
A public criminal case has been initiated against Ovanes Tamamyan under Article 38-309, Part 3 of the Criminal Code (incitement to abuse of official powers).
On February 25, 2026, Ovanes Tamamyan was arrested to be brought to court.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
