On February 25, 2026, Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received Abdinur Dahir Fidow, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to our country.

According to information provided to Modern.az by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, the Ambassador presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. The Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic activities in our country. Assurance was expressed that Somalia's first resident ambassador to our country would spare no effort to further develop relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the current state and development prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia were discussed.

It was noted with satisfaction that the intensification of contacts and the increase in the number of mutual visits between our countries in recent years have been pleasing. The visit of the President of Somalia to our country in February last year, followed by the visit of an Azerbaijani government mission to Somalia and the holding of the first political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs within this framework, as well as the visit of the Somali Foreign Minister to our country in June, were recalled with satisfaction.

The importance of utilizing the existing potential for further deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia in political, economic, humanitarian, agricultural, energy, and other fields was emphasized.

During the meeting, in addition to bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Somalia, the importance of cooperation within multilateral international and regional platforms, particularly within the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, was emphasized. Furthermore, cooperation during Somalia's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2025–2026 was stated to be commendable.

Our country's full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia within its internationally recognized borders was once again brought to attention.

During the meeting, a detailed exchange of views was also held on other issues of mutual interest.
