Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.
Modern.az reports that Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, stated this in a statement to journalists.
“The Strait of Hormuz is the world's main energy communication route. The strait has not been closed by Iran. Passage there is managed by Iran. And we adhere to certain laws ourselves. We want institutions and oil tankers to comply with the laws."
The ambassador stated that the danger posed to oil tankers could create environmental problems.
"Yesterday, the law was not complied with by oil tankers using that route, and therefore measures were taken. However, if events continue in this manner and Iran feels threatened, it will close the Strait of Hormuz if necessary to protect its interests," he said.
