Drone attacks were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic this afternoon. One of the drones fell on the terminal building of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Airport, and the other near a school building in Shakarabad village. The airport building was damaged, and 2 civilians were injured.
Military expert Rovshan Maharramov, in a statement to Modern.az, stated that the events are a serious provocation.
"The possibility of provocation should also be considered. This could have been carried out by some group operating outside the control of the Iranian central government. I also want to note the possibility of it happening by mistake. However, there is a fact that since military operations are not being conducted in the direction of Nakhchivan, this incident needs to be investigated more deeply".
The expert recalled that Azerbaijan has adopted a neutral stance regarding the events in Iran.
"Our country has extended official condolences regarding the loss of life and the death of the Iranian Leader in Iran. This incident should not have happened. First, Iran should know that millions of Azerbaijanis live in Iran itself. They have not protested against the Iranian government like other peoples. During the war, they did not create any additional difficulties for the government; on the contrary, they supported it".
