“The Iranian side must make a statement regarding the drone attack on Nakhchivan Airport”.
Lawyer Ramil Suleymanov stated these words in his statement to Modern.az.
The lawyer noted that it is necessary to rely on any official information regarding the incident. Speaking based on assumptions can worsen the situation:
“The primary obligation of the Iranian side is to state its position regarding the incident that occurred. That is, the Iranian authorities must definitely provide an explanation for this and the reason for its occurrence. If the incident was committed not directly by the Iranian authorities but by some provocative group, an investigation should be conducted in this direction. After its statement, Iran must first of all apologize for the incident that occurred.
Secondly, it must undertake the obligation to cover the damage inflicted. This includes the payment of compensation to the injured victims themselves and their close relatives, as well as the payment of material damage inflicted on objects in the form of compensation”.
Ramil Suleymanov noted that this is the legal side of the issue:
“The political aspect of the incident will be handled by state officials. I believe that the Azerbaijani government's adoption of an appropriate political stance will be carried out taking into account the current situation. Economic factors, the presence of millions of Azerbaijanis in Iranian territory, and other facts will be taken into consideration”.
The lawyer noted that the Azerbaijani state is also authorized to make a decision regarding transitioning to active military defense.
