The targeting of civilian infrastructure in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by unmanned aerial vehicles, reportedly launched from Iranian territory on March 5, has caused international reactions. Specifically, a drone flying from Iranian territory fell near the airport building and the full secondary school of Shakarabad village in Babek district, exploding. As a result of the incident, 4 civilians were injured.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a statement regarding the incident, demanding that the Islamic Republic of Iran clarify the matter, provide an explanation, and take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in a short period.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for its part, stated that it strongly condemns the attacks carried out by Iranian armed forces against civilian infrastructure on our country's territory without military necessity. The Ministry noted that Iran bears responsibility for the incident, and these attacks will not go unanswered.
Following the incident, a number of countries and international actors condemned this attack and expressed support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
