“According to my personal belief, in March-April 2024, Armenian statehood had reached its limit. If we had not decided to start the border demarcation process with Azerbaijan in April 2024, today Armenia would not be an independent state, but at most a territory under foreign rule”.
Modern.az reports that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this in the European Parliament.
“It was very difficult to make the decision on border demarcation. One of the archbishops, encouraged by the de facto head of our church, had launched a movement in Armenia demanding not only to avoid border demarcation but also, in essence, to activate the Karabakh movement, i.e., the conflict. Tens of thousands of citizens took to the streets, caught up in a disinformation campaign led by high-ranking clergy and opposition forces supporting them, who claimed that the Armenian government was preparing to hand over sovereign territories of Armenia and ancient churches and settlements located there to Azerbaijan”, Pashinyan said.
Pashinyan stated that they would not allow a new war.
“We will not allow the peace and independence achieved at the cost of thousands of victims to be sacrificed for anti-Christian purposes”.
