The peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is at risk due to constitutional issues.
Modern.az reports that this was included in the US Intelligence Service's 2026 annual report.
Key findings of the report:
- Despite progress, the main obstacle is related to changes in the Armenian Constitution. US intelligence views the guaranteed success of a possible referendum in Armenia with skepticism.
- TRIPP Route: The US promotes the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" which will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan via Southern Armenia.
- Positive Developments: A near-complete cessation of border skirmishes has been recorded, and transit of Azerbaijani gasoline and wheat to Armenia began after the mutual lifting of blockades in October 2025.
- Struggle for the Region: The US seeks to reduce Russia's and China's influence in the region to secure access to resources and investment corridors.
