Former Press Secretary of the President of Azerbaijan, political commentator Rasim Aghayev has passed away.

He passed away on September 14 at the age of 85 after a long illness.
Rasim Huseyn oglu Aghayev was born on March 17, 1940. He is a philologist with higher education. Rasim Aghayev, who held a Candidate of Historical Sciences degree, defended his dissertation on the problems of political forces in Iraq.
R. Aghayev, who began his journalistic career in 1974, worked as a correspondent, editor, head of the socio-political editorial department for the Russian-language “Azradio” broadcasting agency, a special correspondent for the “Novosti Press” agency and the “Trud” newspaper, and also worked for "Mayak" radio in various years.
He also served as the head of the Azerbaijan department of the “Novosti Press” agency and the head of its Libya bureau.
Rasim Aghayev also previously held the positions of assistant to the first secretary of the Central Committee (CC) of the Communist Party (CP) of Azerbaijan, and head of the ideology department of the Azerbaijan CP CC.
From 1988 to 1991, he served as the press secretary for Abdurrahman Vazirov, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan.
From 1991 to 1992, Rasim Aghayev served as the press secretary for Ayaz Mutallibov, the first President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He was arrested in 1994 and released after some time.
R. Aghayev is the author of political science research and several fiction books. In recent years, he participated in scientific conferences dedicated to contemporary problems of geopolitics in Turkey, Iran, Iraq, CIS, and South Caucasus countries, and as a political scientist, provided comments to the press on current political issues.
