Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the Zangezur corridor.
"The Armenia-US joint venture, “TRIPP Company,” will be registered in Armenia. It will be authorized to develop the necessary infrastructure for railways, roads, oil and gas pipelines, and fiber-optic cables. Next year, we will move to the practical implementation and construction phase," he said.
There is also the issue that parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia in June next year. It is interesting to see how the processes will unfold if Pashinyan's team does not win the elections
In a statement to Modern.az, Director of the South Caucasus Research Center, political scientist Farhad Mammadov stated that everything depends on whether the Pashinyan government reaches an agreement on the TRIPP project within the next 6 months:
“If the Armenian side can deliver the project, the government must sign a document and undertake obligations on its behalf. I do not think that if Pashinyan loses the elections, a new government, especially during a period when Trump is president, would withdraw from its obligations to the US. It is necessary for Armenia to reach an agreement with the US regarding TRIPP within the next 6 months before the elections.”
F. Mammadov emphasized that Azerbaijan is ready for all situations:
“If there are agreements regarding TRIPP, Azerbaijan is ready for all scenarios, regardless of whether Pashinyan is elected or not. That is, there is the question of whether negotiations with a new government will begin. As in 2018, if new forces come to power now, Azerbaijan will have to wait for the new government's position regarding Azerbaijan to be formed. After that, steps will be taken in the appropriate manner.”
