Azerbaijan has accepted the invitation from US President Donald Trump to be a founding member of the Peace Council. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan released information regarding this.
According to Modern.az, political expert Elkhan Shahinoglu, commenting on Azerbaijan's decision, stated that official Baku's joining the Peace Council proposed by Trump is a correct step:
“There are several reasons for this. Firstly, saying “no” to Trump's invitation would negatively affect relations between the two countries that are moving towards strategic partnership, and refusing membership in the Peace Council would be contrary to Azerbaijan's interests in the current geopolitical reality.
Secondly, Donald Trump had also invited Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the Middle East Peace Summit held in Egypt in October last year. With this, Trump desired Azerbaijan's participation in the Middle East peace process. Although Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijani servicemen would not be sent to Gaza, our country has not refused to participate in the reconstruction process of Gaza.
Thirdly, Donald Trump does not want the Peace Council to be limited to Gaza. He and his administration are of the opinion that the Peace Council could replace the UN in the future. Azerbaijan should not remain outside the process of forming the world's new security architecture by the United States, which holds superpower status.
Fourthly, if Armenia responded positively to Trump's offer of membership in the Peace Council, Azerbaijan did not have the luxury of giving a negative response to Washington. On the other hand, Azerbaijan's allies Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan also responded positively to Trump's proposal”.
It should be noted that the White House has established a Peace Council to manage the transition process in Gaza.
US President Donald Trump, as the founding chairman of the Peace Council, sent invitations for membership to 60 countries. The US administration requested countries to donate at least 1 billion dollars for permanent membership in the International Peace Council for the Gaza Strip.
The Peace Council will primarily raise funds for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Additionally, an executive committee and an executive board are planned to be established here for the Gaza Strip.
