Some media representatives violate ethical principles to keep the audience engaged.
Some journalists, abusing freedom on their personal social media accounts, cause confusion in society. This rightfully creates dissatisfaction and protest within society. In addition to the dissemination of false or distorted information, the inappropriate selection of facial expressions, movements, gestures, and speech style is observed.
More challenging than this is news that is equivalent to a lie, creating confusion in society.
Media expert Sabuhi Abbasov told Modern.az that exaggerated facial expressions, gestures, and movements are methods employed by broadcasters to ensure algorithm fluidity.
“In fact, this is not a correct step for a serious media entity. Such an approach is for "travel bloggers". Unfortunately, some journalists have brought this into the socio-political sphere as well. Journalists who disseminate distorted news and make inappropriate facial expressions naturally damage the reputation of the mass media outlet they work for.”
The expert stated that by cutting a certain part of any video material for viewing and concealing accurate information, they create questions in society to ensure the broadcast is watched until the end:
“The representation of journalism on social networks is a separate course. I believe that our journalists are not yet ready for this and should master this particular direction.”
Sabuhi Abbasov also noted that the Media Development Agency has been conducting seminars and trainings for several years now:
“I recommend that journalists participate in the trainings organized by the Agency.
Furthermore, the Audiovisual Council should regulate this area, just as it monitors speech.”
“Article 14 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Media states that “facts and events must be presented impartially and objectively, and one-sidedness must not be allowed”, the expert added.
