Against the backdrop of large-scale “Let's Block Everything - September 10” protest actions in France, the handover of the Prime Minister's post took place at the Matignon Palace. Sébastien Lecornu, who resigned from his position as Minister of the Armed Forces, officially became the new Prime Minister after a closed meeting with François Bayrou. However, opposition parties object to S. Lecornu's appointment as Prime Minister.

Modern.az reports that the “Unbowed France” (LFI) movement has announced it will submit a no-confidence vote against the Lecornu government. This was stated by the party's national coordinator, Manuel Bompard, to BFMTV. Many representatives of left-wing parties have called Sébastien Lecornu's appointment a provocation due to his closeness to President Emmanuel Macron.

Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party, appealed to the new Prime Minister in an interview on “franceinfo” channel, urging him to refuse the use of Article 49.3 of the Constitution. “This would be a step indicating that the method has changed,” he stated, adding that it is necessary to break away from the policies of the last 8 years.

Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally (RN) party, criticized the new appointment, stating that the President is firing the last bullet of Macronism. She predicted that the next Prime Minister would be Jordan Bardella.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, for his part, described this appointment as “disrespect for Parliament” and once again demanded Emmanuel Macron's resignation.

Macronist MP Sylvain Maillard stated in an interview with “franceinfo” channel that Sébastien Lecornu intends to form a government without rushing. “Only in this way can a multi-party collaboration that will work on the budget be created,” he said.

Emmanuel Macron appointed the new Prime Minister to find agreement with political parties and form a new government on this basis. Bruno Retailleau, leader of the Republican party and former Minister of Interior, immediately stated his openness to cooperation with Lecornu.

The Socialist Party openly stated that they would not be part of this government, declaring that Macron is “insistently moving on the wrong path.”

The formation of the new government and how political balances will shift will become clear in the coming weeks.
