A New York district court sentenced Nadine Menendez, wife of Bob Menendez, the former chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, known for his pro-Armenian stance, to 4.5 years in prison.
Modern.az reports that, according to "Bloomberg", she was found guilty of accepting money and gold presented as bribes for her husband to use his authority.
In April, a federal jury in Manhattan found Nadine Menendez guilty on 15 counts. Prosecutors stated that she arranged meetings with Egyptian officials, delivered messages, and was one of the key figures in the bribery scheme. According to the indictment, Nadine accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold bars, and fake “jobs”.
The judge noted in her ruling that Nadine “was not an innocent bystander” and actively participated in the process. However, although the court confiscated her property worth 922 thousand dollars, it postponed the execution of the sentence until July of next year due to health reasons.
