The complete capture of Gaza City will take several months, and its complete clearing will take an additional several months.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by the official representative of the Israel Defense Forces, General Efi Defrin.
“Several months will be needed to take control of the entire city, and several more months will be required to clear all terrorist infrastructures in the city,” – the general emphasized during the briefing.
Defrin noted that the Israeli army, in accordance with the instructions of the political leadership, has moved to the next phase of the operation. The main objective of the operation is the release of prisoners and the complete defeat of Hamas in Gaza City.
According to the general, currently three divisions of the Israeli army are operating in Gaza, and the ground operation will continue as long as required.
“Currently, large areas of Gaza City are under the control of the Israeli army. In the last week, dozens of multi-story buildings where Hamas had established observation posts and other military infrastructure have been struck by the Israeli Air Force,” – Defrin added.
