The Russian military command indicates its intention to win the war against Ukraine. This opinion was stated by analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) after analyzing recent statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.

According to Modern, analysts recalled that on September 18, Putin stated that more than 700,000 Russian soldiers are currently on the front line in Ukraine, while Gerasimov, a day earlier, reported that Russian troops are advancing “practically along the entire front line.” According to experts, these statements “are consistent with Putin's overall theory of victory, which assumes that Russia has the resources and combat capabilities to continue its gradual advance indefinitely and win the war against Ukraine.

"Putin's theory of victory is based on the assumption that Russia can outlast Western support for Ukraine and Ukraine's resistance to Russian aggression. Putin has repeatedly stated his belief that Russian forces can achieve their military objectives on the battlefield, even if they advance slowly,” analysts noted.
