Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.

Modern.az reports that Vladimir Putin stated in the letter that Russian-Armenian relations are built on traditions of good friendship and mutual respect.

"I am confident that the further development of these relations fully serves the interests of our peoples." - Putin noted.

On September 21, the Republic of Armenia celebrates its Independence Day. Armenia's Declaration of Independence was adopted on August 23, 1990, at a session of the Supreme Soviet.

On September 21, 1991, a referendum was held in Armenia to secede from the USSR. 94.39 percent of the 2,056,758 eligible voters cast their ballots in favor of independence. On September 23, after the Supreme Council of Armenia finalized the results of the referendum, it declared the Republic of Armenia an independent state.
