France will recognize the Palestinian state, but does not envisage the immediate opening of an embassy there.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron.

He said in an interview with CBS that the French embassy will only open after Hamas releases all hostages held in Gaza:

“This is an important condition for us,” – Macron noted.

He also emphasized that disagreeing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not antisemitism:“My disagreement with Netanyahu does not make me antisemitic.”

Macron also criticized Charles Kushner, the US ambassador to France and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, reprimanding him for accusing the government of not being active enough in the fight against antisemitism in France.

Macron also announced that France does not consider Israel's military operations in Gaza as “genocide.”

“We do not recognize this as genocide. This cannot be merely a political statement, it requires a legal and historical basis,” – he stated.

The French leader emphasized that he did not reject the UN report accusing the Israeli leadership of “incitement to genocide,” but noted the importance of investigating the events on a legal rather than political level:

“What is happening is the killing of numerous civilians and the forced displacement of people. I consider this a grave error.”
