Former Member of the British Parliament, George Galloway, who currently leads the country's Workers' Party, and his wife Putri Gayatri Pertivi have been detained.
Modern.az reports that they were apprehended upon their return from Moscow at Gatwick Airport.
The politician and his wife were questioned by the police under Article 3 of the 2019 Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act.
Staff from London's counter-terrorism unit stated that the 70-year-old man and 40-year-old woman were stopped in accordance with legislative requirements, they were spoken to, and released without charge.
The Workers' Party, led by Galloway, called the incident “a politically motivated attempt at intimidation” and demanded the immediate release of their leader.
It is worth noting that Galloway participated in the Victory Parade in Moscow in May of this year. He had previously visited Iran, where he was awarded a prize named after Ismail Haniyeh, the former Hamas leader killed by Israel in July 2024. Sources confirm that he was also in Russia in recent days.
