NATO is considering taking tougher measures against Russian aircraft and drones violating the alliance's airspace.

Modern.az reports that “The Times” publication wrote about this.

In recent weeks, incidents have been recorded in Poland, Romania, Estonia, and other countries. Air defense frigates and reconnaissance systems have already been deployed in the Baltic region.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has proposed transforming the air patrol mission into a full-fledged air defense operation. This entails the deployment of additional air defense systems and a lowering of the threshold for the use of force.

US President Donald Trump called for shooting down aircraft violating allies' borders, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte supported this position.

However, some members of the alliance fear excessive escalation.

On September 10, the intrusion of approximately 20 Russian drones into Poland, advancing towards the Lask airbase where American F-35s are stationed, caused particular concern.
