Japan's former Minister of Economic Security, Ms. Sanae Takaichi, has been elected leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Modern.az reports that Sanae Takaichi became the first female leader in the party's history by defeating 4 rivals in the party leadership race. In the first round, among 5 candidates, Sanae Takaichi garnered 183 votes, and her main rival Shinjiro Koizumi garnered 164 votes, advancing to the second round. In the second round, Sanae Takaichi prevailed.

In the coming days, the new leader of the ruling party will be put to a vote in parliament for the position of the country's prime minister. With this, she could become Japan's first female Prime Minister.

It should be noted that the current Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced his resignation from the position of the ruling party's leader at the beginning of September.
