The organizers of the October 4 action in Georgia have been detained.
Modern.az reports that Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has announced the detention of the main organizers of the action held in Tbilisi on October 4.
According to the Ministry's information, among those detained are Murtaz Zodelava and Irakli Nadiradze, members of the "United National Movement" Party, Paata Burchuladze, one of the leaders of the "Rustaveli Avenue" movement, Paata Manjgaladze, a representative of the "Strategy Aghmashenebeli" Party, and Colonel Lasha Beridze.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandr Darakhvelidze stated that the detained individuals are accused of making calls to forcibly change Georgia's constitutional order or overthrow state power, and of organizing, leading, and participating in group violence.
According to him, for these crimes, a sentence of up to 9 years of imprisonment is stipulated.
According to investigation materials, the detained individuals made calls for violence at the rally held in Freedom Square, while some participants destroyed the security barriers of the Presidential Palace and attempted to enter the building.
The MIA stated that although law enforcement agencies repeatedly called on the rally participants to hold the action peacefully, these demands were not met.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 317, 222, 225, and 187 of the Criminal Code. The Ministry stated that the public would be informed about the progress of the investigation in stages.
According to the information, Murtaz Zodelava and Irakli Nadiradze were detained on Rustaveli Avenue, while Paata Burchuladze was detained at the "Helsikor" clinic. The 5 detained individuals are members of the organizing committee of the October 4 action.
