Today is the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin; he has turned 73.

Modern.az reports that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was born on October 7, 1952, in Leningrad. He assumed the presidency in 2000, following the resignation of Boris Yeltsin, the first president of the Russian Federation.  From 2008 to 2012, he held the position of Prime Minister of the country. In 2012, he was re-elected president.

Vladimir Putin is considered a dictator by all reputable international organizations, and his numerous reforms have been assessed as anti-democratic by the Russian opposition and foreign observers.

According to the Democracy Index published in 2011, Russia transitioned from a hybrid state system to authoritarianism as a result of Putin's candidacy and fraudulent parliamentary elections.

In 2014, Russia's participation in the G8 was suspended due to the annexation of Crimea.

At Putin's instruction, the concentration of Russian forces near the Ukrainian border began in late 2021, which escalated into a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. This war led to unprecedented subsequent sanctions against Russia (including personally against Putin), which caused a certain financial crisis in the country.
