The Nobel Committee was able to contact American scientist Fred Ramsdell, who was awarded this year's prize in physiology or medicine, only one day later.
Modern az reports that the Reuters agency disseminated information about this.
According to the information, Ramsdell was out of contact for a long time because he was on a nature hike with his wife without a phone.
Thomas Perlman, the Secretary-General of the Committee, stated that contact with the scientist was only possible upon the couple's return to the hotel:
“When they returned to the hotel, their car had broken down. When his wife opened her phone, she saw many messages. They were still in nature, with bears around. He was very scared when he heard his wife scream, but then he was overcome with tears of joy because he had received the Nobel Prize.”
Ramsdell himself stated that he was completely surprised by the news of the award and extremely happy.
It should be noted that this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Fred Ramsdell, Jeffrey Bluestone, and Shimon Sakaguchi for their research in the field of immune regulation mechanisms.
