Ambassadors in Tehran and heads of European missions have been summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in protest of the European Union's (EU) interventionist stance in the Persian Gulf.

Modern.az reports that the “Mehr” agency disseminated information on this matter.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the support for the UAE's unfounded territorial claims to Iran's Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands, as well as comments regarding Iran's defense and nuclear programs, in the joint statement by the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the EU, were met with protest in Tehran. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi summoned the European ambassadors and conveyed Tehran's strong protest.

The Deputy Minister informed the ambassadors that there had been a clear interference in Iran's internal affairs.
