The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested permission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey for an investigation into Mansur Yavaş, the head of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB), and his private secretary Nevzat Uzunoğlu, within the scope of an investigation into concert expenses in the capital municipality.
According to information from Modern.az, in the Chief Public Prosecutor's application, “abuse of office” and “negligent performance of supervisory duty” charges were cited regarding Yavaş and Uzunoğlu.
Mansur Yavaş objected to the decision, stating that there is no issue they would shy away from in the investigation:
“They came to inspect us multiple times. Each time, we submitted all documents. Let them investigate again, we are not afraid,” – he noted.
In the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the investigation into “illegality” claims regarding concert expenses during the period covering 2021–2024 has been completed and an indictment has been prepared.
According to the document, it is alleged that more than 154 million liras of public funds were damaged regarding the municipality's 32 concert service contracts.
A total of 14 people, five of whom are in custody, are requested to be imprisoned for up to 18 years under the article of “qualified embezzlement” (nitelikli zimmet).
The indictment has been sent to the Ankara 34th High Criminal Court.
It should be recalled that during the operation conducted on September 26, former department heads, branch managers, and some private company executives of the municipality were detained on charges of “abuse of office” and “tender fraud.”
However, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality calls the allegations groundless.
