Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend a peace summit on Gaza.
According to **Modern.az**, he was greeted at the airport by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
However, a notable incident occurred during the visit.
Reportedly, Erdoğan's plane was unable to land on the first attempt. It is noted that the aircraft carrying the Turkish leader initially veered off the airport's runway, remained airborne over the Red Sea for a short period, and then landed safely. Further details have not been disclosed.
Although no official information was provided regarding the cause of the incident, according to the claim of Hasan Öztürk, editor-in-chief of “Ülke TV” channel, the Turkish leader received information during the flight that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might attend the summit. According to Öztürk, Erdoğan intended to immediately halt the visit and return to Turkey if this news was confirmed. Even as the plane was preparing for landing and the landing gear was deployed, the aircraft regained altitude to verify the information.
Subsequently, the Egyptian side confirmed to the Turkish President that Netanyahu would not attend the summit. Following this, Erdoğan's plane changed its course and landed at Sharm el-Sheikh airport. Official Ankara has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
According to reports, although US President Donald Trump attempted to have Netanyahu invited to the summit, the plan did not materialize as several country leaders, including the Iraqi Prime Minister, indicated they would leave the meeting in such a case. The summit is discussing the implementation of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and ensuring stability in the region.
